Actor Training Program Audition Information

Applications and audition registration for students participating in on-campus auditions are due by February 8, 2017.

Students participating in off-campus auditions at the National Unified Auditions must register online by January 13, 2017, and bring their application materials with them to their audition.

AUDITIONING FOR THE ACTOR TRAINING PROGRAM REQUIRES A 3-STEP PROCESS.

  1. Complete an application and submit the required supplemental documents, available for download below. Incomplete applications cannot be processed.

  2. Register online to schedule an audition and pay a non-refundable $30 application fee.

  3. Audition. We prefer that applicants audition in-person. Applicants may participate in our on-campus auditions at the University of Utah on February 11, 2017, or audition in one of the cities we visit as part of the National Unified Auditions. If you are an applicant who lives outside of the United States, or in an extreme case where an in-person audition is not possible, you may submit a DVD with your application materials.

Students admitted to the ATP must also be admitted to the University of Utah, which is separate application process. Please visit University of Utah Admissions website for more information and applications.

Local On-Campus Auditions

You should plan to stay for the entire session, but may be dismissed early. Bring a lunch, or money to purchase a lunch on campus.

You must be prepared to:

  • Attend mini-classes.
  • Present two contrasting monologues of no longer than 1 1/2 minutes in length each. Monologues should be chosen from the body of contemporary dramatic literature and must be memorized. Please avoid the use of props.
  • (Optional) Sing 16-bars of a song, preferably chosen from the musical theatre repertoire. An accompanist will be provided.  Please bring sheet music in the correct key with the cutting clearly marked.

Arrive at the audition in loose, comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement to participate in the mini-classes. You will be given time to change into appropriate attire to sing and present you monologues.  You will also have the opportunity to talk informally with ATP instructors and current students.

You will be assigned an individual appointment time and must be prepared to:

  • (Optional) Sing 16-bars of a song, preferably chosen from the musical theatre repertoire. An accompanist will NOT be provided. You may either sing unaccompanied or bring pre-recorded accompaniment and a playback unit.
