Before playing the role of Luke Spencer for forty years on General Hospital, Coalville, Utah native Anthony Geary (ex '69) was a Presidential Award Scholarship student at the University of Utah's Department of Theatre. Going by “Tony” at the time, Geary performed in the first musical ever produced in the U’s Babcock Theatre in 1965 called She Loves Me, directed by the beloved Keith Engar (and written about by Marcia Dibble in the Fall 2005 issue of Continuum).

While in his sophomore year, Geary was discovered in 1967 by Jack Albertson who cast him in the touring production of The Subject Was Roses which played at Pioneer Theatre Company in1967.
