Arika Schockmel

Properties Master

Arika Schockmel is the Props Master for The University of Utah Department of Theatre. With almost 20 years of professional prop master and prop artisan experience, Arika teaches prop and stage craft techniques for the Scenography course and instructs a Prop Design and Construction course.

Arika has designed and built props, sets, makeup, costumes, projections, and set dressing throughout the Mountain West. Locally, Arika is the Resident Prop Master for Plan-B Theatre Co, and has prop mastered and designed for Lyric Repertory Co., The Egyptian Theatre, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Lyric Opera, SLAC, Dark Horse, UCT, and others.

Arika has also been a Costume Crafts artisan for Pioneer Theatre Company and has taught Stage Crafts for Youth Theatre at ETC. An Acting/Directing and Design alum of Utah State University Department of Theatre, Arika has also worked professionally as a costumer and actor in film and television, and is a proud member of S*P*M--the Society of Properties Managers, a national association of professional Prop Managers and Educators.
